Joining Student Organizations

If you are a college student and you are confused which organization you can join, ask around. Some students will actually ask if you want to join their organization. Of course, you can join but you have to remember some key pointer before joining a student organization.

Make sure that you join out of interest, not out of hype. This is similar to the ‘be yourself’ cliché but it applies well. Find an organization that has the same interests with you. If you join out of hype, you will have a deep personal struggle. If someone asks you to join the weightlifting org because it is cool, think wisely. Do you really want to spend a lot of time in gym lifting weights and tossing around with macho men? If you have a fine hobby of knitting, you might as well join the knitting club. Some students may tease you but just ignore them. As long as you’re doing something you like, prosperity will follow you.

Be careful at all times. Some groups, especially fraternities have rigorous and humiliating initiation rites. This is to determine if you are tough enough to join the group and follow its rules. Such groups also offer protection to bullied students and may tend to commit some violent acts. You can do a research about the group. Who are their founders? What are they goals? Is it worth my time and effort? Those are the questions you have to ask yourself before joining the group.

Texas technical college hones different student groups that could enhance knowledge and interaction. Each organization has its own website you can look upon. Through that, you can contact the founders or recruiters of the organization.

Organizations in several Texas technical colleges conduct many outreach programs that helped increase the school’s visibility. You might consider joining those organizations so you can utilize your time to help others. Fundraisings are also common to these organizations in order to support future projects.

To enjoy your long stay at a Texas technical college, make sure that you will join the right organization. Never join shady groups that can put your credibility at risk. The forging of your career begins at school and you must not waste the opportunity.
